Circuit Design
Digital logic and circuit design: how the hardware of a computer is built from logic gates, from Boolean algebra to sequential circuits.
Curriculum / Syllabus
- Number Systems and Binary Arithmetic
- Boolean Algebra and Logic Gates
- Karnaugh Maps and Logic Minimisation
- Combinational Circuits (Adders, Multiplexers, Decoders)
- Latches and Flip-Flops
- Sequential Circuits, Registers and Counters
- Finite State Machines
Exam & Course Strategy
Exams ask you to design a circuit from a specification, simplify it and trace its behaviour over time. We practise going from a word description to a truth table, a state diagram and finally a circuit.
